Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty shocked the business community in his March 19, 2007 budget with proposals that would dramatically reshape the income tax rules affecting foreign investment by Canadian corporations.

Income Splitting Opportunity for Seniors

On June 22, 2007 Parliament enacted previously announced proposals to allow eligible pension income to be split among senior citizen couples. Starting in 2007, senior couples will be allowed to pool their retirement pension income and take advantage of progressive tax rates to pay less tax.
